SEASON 5: Soccermanager 23; Episode 12 : TRAINING (PT.2)

I hope yesterday’s visualization has got you pumped up for today’s episode soccermanagerite. Let’s get straight to it:

TRAINING DRILLS

Training drills are just that: The place where you go to train your players. When you click unto this page, you will see 10 slots on your screen where you are able to place the type of training that you’d like to perform. You can place any amount of the same drill but I suggest that you switch things up and perform different types drills during your session.

Since you’ll be starting off at ‘level 0’, there will only be 4 slots available at this time. One of the slots is already taken and it is where you’re able to perform what is known as “Basic Training”. This type of training is “basically” (see what I did there lol) the usual warm up drills that professionals like to call ‘dynamic stretches’. These are simply done in order for each player’s blood flow and body temperature to be increased. There are other things that can be considered basic training such as ball juggling, simple short, medium and long passing, rondos, tag etc.

Next to the basic training area, you have 2 empty slots that are available and MUST be used in order tot get the best out of each week’s training:

Thankfully, the creators of SM23 have granted us an extra slot where we get to perform another drill with the added benefit of it having more of an impact compared to the two empty slots (this is due to the ‘drill effect’ which I’ll be going over shortly)

The name of this extra slot is called the ‘Training Manager’ slot and I like to consider it the area where you as the manager can actually imput your coaching ability, while the rest of the other slots being primarily perfromed by the coaching staff (who are ofcourse not at your level)

Speaking of the ‘drill effects’, there are 6 different drills that you can choose from during each training session. The effect of each drill is based on the level your training facility is at. The higher the level the more impact each training drill will have on each player.

Here is a brief summary of each drill and what you can expect from performing them:

Attacking: Different offensive drills that primarily aim to improve your attacking players ability to perform as good as they can within the attacking third of the pitch.

Defending: The complete opposite to Attacking. These drills are primarily focused on your defensive players and seek to improve their abilities within the defensive third of the pitch.

Goalkeeping: If you’ve ever watched a video of a professional club training, you’d see that the goalkeepers tend to separate themselves from the rest of the squad and perform their own position specific drills. If you’d like a visual, check out the “England three lions” YouTube channel where they have many different goalkeeping videos during training where you can see how their drills look. As a matter of fact, here’s a link to the most recent one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ugF-0hv7bKc

Physical: This aspect of training has everything to do with fitness. So you can expect to have drills such as jogging, sprinting, acceleration drills, cone drills with and without the ball, as well as strength training.

Technical: These drills are all about improving each player’s ability on the ball. They consist of many different drills that require a player to show off their technical skills, their football brain and their concentration.

Tactical: In my opinion, these drills are without question the most important since they require that you already have a sense of how you want your team to play in order to perform them. So, here is where every single tactical set up you decide to use on the ‘tactics’ page gets worked on. I also have a secret tip in order to ensure that your players get used to your system as quickly as possible that I will be sharing in an upcoming episode this week.

TRAINING CAPCITY

A very important area within your training page will be the club’s current training capacity. As I mentioned in episode 9 last week, performing a training session with too many players will lead to the club gaining a ‘penalty’ which means that there is a fee that needs to be paid every time you perform a training session.

As you can see, we are currently over the capacity by 9 players. The only ways to avoid this from happening is by either upgrading the training facility or selling 9 players

We’ll end it there, soccermanagerite. In tomorrow’s episode we’ll be going over the ‘Training Reports’ area as well as performing a live upgrade to the facility in order for you to grasp what improving your training ground is all about. DON’T MISS IT! 👌
