Season 10: SM24 ATTRIBOOSTS: EPISODE 10

This is the type of player that we absolutely love!!! Someone who splits opinion on the kind of footballer that he is which allows us to step in and display our expertise! 😎

If it’s one thing that we can all agree on is the fact that James Ward-Prowse is one hell of a professional. You may not be aware of this, but J.W.P is currently into his 12th season as a first team player in senior Football, having been in the Southampton first team set up since the age of 16. A player that was touted as “The next Beckham”, he may have not lived up to the highlight reel or a career like Becks (I mean, only a handful of footballers have ever done that throughout the history of our sport), but he has definitely conjoured up what can be considered a respectable career, to date! 👏

SM24 ATTRIBUTES

Like we said in the intro, Prowsey splits opinion in terms of what many pundits and fans claim to be his best position, role and identity as a player. It seems as if those opinions have impacted his attributes within SM24 since we believe that this might be the most changes that has ever had to be made to a player within this season, to date. And unsurprisingly, we’re SOOO excited for it! 😋

TECHNICAL ATTRIBUTES

According to SM24, Prowsey is a ‘Playmaker’ that plays primarily as an ‘8’ or ’10’, who bosses the middle of the park with his constant display of dictating the tempo, playing defence split passes and aiming to dominate the tempo of the game with his ball playing finesse… Uhhh, we don’t think so… Sit down for a sec and let us cook *cracks knuckles*…

WHAT WE THINK

First off, James Ward-Prowse is the definition of what a ‘General Midfielder’ is. A player who doesn’t necessarily possess any real X factor capability during in game scenarios but is really decent enough at multiple things to do a proper job for the team. Ward-Prowse has never played in the AM(C) position prior to his final season with Southampton, and was strictly placed there so he can have a bit more license to get in the box while also allowing his team to pack the middle of the park with as much numbers so that they never get outnumbered. You’ll never see him trying to find space in between the lines or playing intricate passes with other attack minded players. What he does though is collect the ball , play it with some or little risk, and use his football IQ to get himself in the right areas to be as effective as he can… 

As a ‘General Midfielder’, J.W.P will operate in various different positions, and given what he provides on the ball ( I lied… He is a fantastic crosser of the ball, so that can be considered his X factor), he can double up as a DM, or operate on the right of a midfield 4 or 5…

In terms of his technical capabilities, Prowsey is “limited” for a lack of a better word. He does a steady job for his team, but what makes him stand out is the fact that he’s arguably the best set piece taker in world football at the moment. I mean, this is why he was labeled the next Beckham… The lad can strike a dead ball!

Now, you might be wondering “Why would anyone have a player with such limited abilities within the middle of the park?”. Well, when you lack something you’ve got to make up for it in other areas of your game and that is one thing that we can confidently say that J.W.P has done throughout his career because he is a player who will never stop running and gives his absolute all out there on the pitch. “The kind of guy you’d go to war with”, as Roy Keane likes to say. Buuuuhhhht it kinda just so happens that he isn’t being represented properly here… I mean, ’87’ for Workrate is okay, but what happened to his Stamina? Surely Prowsey’s got more energy than these 3:

We’d admit that the mental attributes are where the beloved creators of SM have been performing well so far this season, but again, we’ve gotta pull a Rafa Benitez and bring out the “Facts”:
