Now, all this talk about surviving relegation got me wondering if I’m converting myself into a Sean Dyche or a Tony Pulis or something… Let’s not get this twisted, The S.M.B still has the priority of developing Deities whose main pursuit is to win thier respective league.
Arguably the second most difficult thing to accomplish within SMW (Only second to winning that darn SMFA World Cup), the domestic league in which you participate is the truest indication of your tactical and innovative capabilities as a manager. As you already know, it’s a 38 game bonanza that brings with it a lot of ups and downs, but there are several methods of ensuring that you are in the running to be crowned as your Gameworld’s champion.
Many of you might believe that it has everything to do with your tactical set up, and although this is very true, there are some strategies that champions within SMW partake in that has nothing to do with their tactical approach.
And in today’s episode, I’ll be explaining some of the best strategies that you can begin to implement for that sweet title success:
STRATEGY #1: KNOW YOUR BEST XI BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS
If it’s one thing we Soccermanagerites enjoy is the end of the season preparation for the upcoming one! Here is where we truly get the opportunity to take an analysis of our club and identify who are the must keeps, who we must sell and who we must look to purchase within the market. Although this is a very good strategy to implement, the problem comes when after the new season commences, you’re still figuring out who is your best starting X1 5,6 or 7 games into the season. Therefore, in order to give yourself the best opportunity for success, you must have a mental map pertaining whom your perffered starting X1 will be, who are the “spine” of your team, and which 3 or 4 squad players will play an important rotational role throughout. Doing this will ensure that you have a better capability of knowing what to expect from this X1 and make adjustments when necessary.
STRATEGY #2: SPLIT THE SEASON INTO QUARTERS
In a 38 league competition, there will be various times where your league position will lead you into a false sense of optimism or pessimism. The way this occurs is via our tendency to keep checking the league table after every match, and even on days where there isn’t a match being played. I know we love this game a lot, but doing this over and over will make you start thinking too much about your future prospects (wether good or bad). Therefore, the best strategy to implement will be to split the season into 3 quarters where you only take a look at the league table after 10 consecutive matches. So, this will mean you only look at the position of your team after MD10, MD20, and MD28. Now, the final quarter will be the most important as MD28 indicates that there are 10 matches left within the league so this is the time where you get absolutely obsessed with the table. You can look at it after every game, every day or every 5 minutes if you want since here is where all of your effort from the previous matches will be brought to the front. Additionally, you’ll still want to have an idea in terms of the position that your opposition is in, so you could always check that out via the “Match Preview”. Just make sure that you cover your club’s area on the screen so that you’re only looking at where your opposition are and what form they’re in.
STRATEGY #3 PRIORITIZE YOUR BACK LINE
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “Defence wins titles” and this is very true within our luxurious game. Although you will require to have a good looking attack that is scoring goals on call, in order to truly win the league it will require that you become stingy at the back. The only way to do this is to ensure that you are not swapping and changing too often (especially after MD28). The only caveat to this will be if you want to rotate your Fullbacks in order to avoid having unhappy players, but no matter what other rotations you do, you must NEVER be swapping your D(C) partners as these players (along with your GK) must have the strongest chemistry between them which will only occur via playing a lot of games together.
By using these strategies you can give yourself a better opportunity of getting to the top and staying there. I hope this has been beneficial for you guys and I’ll catch you lot in the next one, Cheers!
