Season 7: SMW Superstars Episode 21: Robert Lewandowski

Things are really starting to get spicy, aren’t they soccermanagerite? In today’s episode, we take a look at who many consider one of the best players for his age and profile: Barcelona and Poland International, Robert Lewandowski.

Robert was a nomad in his early career as he went from one Polish academy to the bext, but it was at Borussia Dortmund where he fully got to showcase the deadly finsher that we all get to see and admire today. A very unique Striker, Robert does not have a lot of pace but surely makes up for it with his exceptional technial abilities (if you want to see this in action during a earlier age, check out the 5 goals he scored against Real Madrid in the Champions league back in 2013). He then made the usual move from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Muich where he won a Champions league trophy, as well as dominating the Bundesliga and, in 2022, he got what he considred to be his “dream move” when he signed for Barcelona, and after winning La Liga in his first season, as well as winning the Pichici, Robert contiues to grow from strength to strength at the ripe old age of 34…

PLAYER BIO

Robert is now officially the best player within SMW with his rating of 97, and if used correctly, there is a huge potential for him being the difference between 2nd or 1st, and Runners up or being Champions

BEST ATTRIBUTES WITHIN SM23

Robert is someone who you can absolutely bank on scoring a truck load of goals since his top attributes are all within the elite territory for his role and playing style

BEST ROLES

As I’ve been mentioning, the modern day F(C) is pretty accustomed to playing up front on their own, and Lewandowski is the epitome of this…
On the other hand, he isn’t just a Target Man who only wants to “pin” his opposition back and stay within the 6 yd box. He’s also exceptionally gifted with the ball at his feet for such a tall player…
Compared to his counterparts, however, Robert is that one world class F(C) that will always be comfortable playing as that hold up man (especially when he has a lot of numbers around him making clever movement)
He is a F(C) that is quite capable in many different formations and alongside many different styles of players, as long as he is being operated as your main Striker up front…
And although I mentioned he prefers being up front alone, Robert is intelligent enough to play with a strike partner along side him, but his partner must be comfortable playing second fiddle to your 97 rated Polish star
Like I mentioned earlier, Robert is one of those F(C)’s, if given the task, would absolutely be able to play up front all by himself in formations like the ones in this image

HOW TO BEST USE HIM

To truly get the absolute best out of Robert, it will be important to play formations that allow him to get a whole heap of service coming from various different teammates. Even though he is very good on the ball, he is still a penalty box merchant that finishes 9 out of 10 of his chances (as long as those chances are continuously being created for him)7⁷
One thing that should already be known is the fact that Lewandowski and ‘U.T.M’ goes hand in hand, no matter what or how you choose to implement him within your starting X1

WHO ARE THE BEST TEAMATES?

This guy requires service (particularly from outwide since he is one of the best headers in the game). Therefore, you should consider stacking your team with outside merchants who are all about chance creation rather than scoring themselves. Although the ‘Advanced Playmaker’ is not mandatory, he still should be prioritized if you decide to play a formation like the 4-2-3-1B
The same thing goes for a 4-3-3 type formation, but I want to make one thing clear: When it comes to a Robert Lewandowski type F(C), it is recommended that you choose to play with a lot of width around him, so I personally believe that you should only think about using the ‘B’ type rather than the ‘A’ (same thing goes for the 4-2-3-1)
I realized that, during the course of 20 episodes, I haven’t mentioned this formation a single time, so today is a great way to showcase just what would be needed if you ever chose to use the 4-3-2-1, in addition to having Robert as your main F(C). And as you can see, he will require A LOT of creative service around him…
The 3 at the back formations remain the same in terms of the principles for getting the absolute best out of Robert. The main emphasis should be to use whatever progressive players that you are considering, as long as there is some sort of width being implemented
If you simply have an obsession with 2 man strike formations and simply cannot fathom playing Lewan up front alone, then he MUST have a partner that is all about creativity first, since if we decide to put another goal hungry Striker next to him ( like a Salah or a Rashford, for example) Robert’s world class ‘ego’ will lead him to becoming selfish which could cause a loss in chemistry between both players.
If being a pragmatist is the name of your game, then you can play Robert upfront on his own, but just be aware he will now be operating more like a ‘Robust Target Man’ and will only stay up front all game. So, teammates will be even more important
Just a reminder that, no matter how you play, you must ALWYAS use Lewandowski as your Target Man in every game he plays

Robert Lewandowski is an icon for millions of Strikers around the world and he has made his various clubs and country proud via his goal scoring prowess.

Although he is the highest rated player in SMW at the moment, there is still one accolade that he hasn’t been able to obtain. And we can’t say the same for who we have coming up next…
