It must be so strange seeing a blog on a Sunday huh. Well we are aiming to provide you with as much value as we possibly can without the need to go anywhere else for your SM23 knowledge. The key to getting the most out of your tactics will be to obtain as much detail as you possibly can and this can only happen if you have a fundamental understanding of some of the items that we will be discussing today. So, without Freddy Adu, let’s get things cracking:
NEXT FIXTURE

This is an often overlooked area that needs some attention. The team that we are coming up against MUST be analysed in order to identify the tactics required from us to ensure that we are not defeated. When you first start out playing SM23 you will have a manager level of “Amateur” (I’ve also created an episode looking at the different manager levels within SM23 that I will leave a link to after today’s episode). What this means is that we are not up to the standard tactcially to handle what would be very good managers (especially if we decide to manage a top level team first things first) therefore it is MANDATORY that we check out our opposition’s starting X1 and key players in order for us to be well prepared. Additoinally, this is something that needs to become habitual so you must get into the mindset of doing your own scouting and preparation before EVERY GAME.
TEAM CHEMISTRY

This is the sort of thing that seprates proper managers from wannabes… At the start of your career your team’s level of chemistry won’t mean a lot since they will be getting used to playing your new tactics, but as you continue to progress you must take into consideration the team’s level of cohesion before looking to make any changes to your strongest team. I highly suggest that you stick to the same X1 as much as you possibly can within the start of your managerial career at every club in order for you to get a grasp into who the players are that can make an impact within each match, as well as who is finding your style of play suitable and who isn’t.
PLAYER ROLES

I have already went through this area in detail back in season 4 so I will keep this brief. SM23 has 21 different roles available for use and each is like a piece of a puzzle that must be meshed together in order to get the entire picture. This is why it is important that you have an understanding of each role, knowing how a player will play in it, as well as the attributes required in order for each player to play their best within that specific role.
BOOST

The final thing we will be going over today is the option to boosts certain aspects for each player. Now, I am not a huge fan of using boosts AT ALL as I just see them as cheating and not realistic. But I understand that not everyone has my perspective so there will be those who tend to use these boosts reguarly in order to get a player back fit or boost his morale (I’m sorry, but I just cannot see myself ever using these, but hey, go for it if your that type of manager…. ).
Okay, one final thing that I will mention is that when you play a match there will be an option to boost the ratings of 3 random players from your starting X1 if you choose to use some of your available boosts or watch a short ad. Personally (As a matter of fact I think I mentioned this in an episode from the past), I only boost the ratings of my players if they have been performing at a high level for multiple seasons. I treat it similarly to how SM Worlds improves a player’s ratings based on their real life performances. But no player will have a rating improvement of 5 or more over 1 season so I tend to only start using it after 1 season and a half with exceptions for any player that performed at world class levels during my first season at the helm.

Thank you as always for checking in and giving the SMB a read mate, you are EXTREMELEY appreciated! In tomorrow’s episode, we will be starting a mini series looking into some custom formations that you can use along with player roles that are best suited for you to get the absoulte most out of each player and formation! VAMOS!
For squad chemistry, is there a difference in squad performance if you have 100 chemistry vs 99,98,95 etc?

Hey Ervin! 100 is more ideal, but they’re really isn’t that much of a difference from 95-100… But still, you should aim to acquire as close to 100 as you possibly can!
