SEASON 5: SM23; Episode 25: SCOUTING (PT5)

To finish off another great week of SMB content, we head back to our assigned task that was given to my Head Scout back in episode 23.



As a refresher, I wanted the Scout to search for an Advanced playmaker who plays off the right, is aged between 19-22, costs around $10M and who’s contract expires less than 2 years in order for us to be able to capture this player for a bargain (remember that this is just for tutorial purposes only and I will not be signing any players for Brighton due to my “no signings during the 1st season” policy)



Alrighty, let’s see what my Scout has for me:

Let’s go over who these players are and how my scouts think they will fit:

Well well well….. So first things first, Amuzu is not an Advanced playmaker which tells me that there’s not a lot of them around within the age group, so that’s already a no sign for me…

But let’s continue to see what my Scout thinks about him:

Francis is a loyal player who sometimes handles pressure well, is highly driven and ambitious, has 2 years remaining on his contract and would request a contract of $20,500 per week as well as an Agent fee of $770,000
The best thing about him is the fact that he’s still young, therefore still developing. He has reasonable Chemistry with the team which means he’d only ever get to 90 and he’d cost around $9.5-11.5M quid, but seeing that he only has 2 years left on his contract there is a possibility that we could get him for even less (this is where being a Suit Manager would really come in handy)
Like I said though, he’s not the style of player I was looking for so I will have to reject him


This lad is a Deep-lying Forward, and while I could potentially play him off the right and give him that Advanced Playmaker role, there are some concerns that bother me 👇 👇 👇




I’ve highlighted the main issues I have with Woo in that he does not handle pressure well and is fairly ambitious. Now, you might be asking yourself: “But how does a Scout know that he dosen’t handle pressure well??”
Good question…



Normally, the idea behind Scouts identifying how a player handles pressure or how ambitious he is can be discovered by the current league the player is currently in. Players playing in lesser competitive leagues will not have as much pressure on them to perform and it can become easier for them to become comfortable being a “big fish in a small pond”.

The above scenario shouldn’t involve Woo however. He is currently playing for Freiburg in the Bundesliga which is ranked the 3rd best league in the world. So for Woo to be considered unambitious and not being able to handle pressure is a mistake from my Scout. This is where their level 1 Accuracy comes into play. So my Scout’s got this one wrong, but Woo isn’t the kind of player I would’ve wanted so we move on from this.



And with that, we come to the end of yet another week of going into more detail pertaining the proper navigation of SM23. You already know we’ll be back next week. getting into something new! Ohhhhhh I just love this game! 🤩

  1. I noticed today one of my player’s bios changed. My AMC who has always been shown to ‘not handle pressure well’ now reads ‘sometimes handles pressure well.’ Previously I thought only player bios that read ‘sometimes’ could grow to say ‘always.’ Now I see that with enough time any player can grow to handle pressure well.
