SEASON 5: Soccermanager 23; Episode 19: MANAGER (PT.5)

When it comes to professional soccer it would be an understatement to say that the things that are happening off the field have an impact on your team’s performance on it. A club that is well ran has massive potential for growth as well as being a more interesting option for players whom are keen on getting signed. The flip side of this is a club that is currently being ran terribly tends to have lackluster performances on the field, while most players will not want to be playing in those kinds of environments.

Although the Board has to take up a lot of responsibilities pertaining everything off the pitch, it’s up to you as the manager to ensure that the performances on the pitch are up to standards on a consistent basis. And these standards have been written in black and white in order for you to know exaxctly what is needed from you throughout your time at the club.

Now then, let’s take a look into the different aspects of the ‘Board’ page that 100% must be taken into consideration and kept at the back of your mind in order to ensure that you perform each task that is required.

BOARD CONFIDENCE

Just like at any other job, in order for you to maintain a good relationship with your employers you must ensure that you are perfroming to their standards. The Board at each club in Soccer views the perfomance of the team on the pitch as one of the major factors that is key to them continuing to grow the club into one of the best within the game. The amount of confidence that the board has within you will be displayed in this area via a rating out of 5 stars. There will also be three different types feedback pertaining your current performances. These Feedbacks can be either positive or negative depending on how things are going.

FAN CONFIDENCE

The stadnards of your performances aren’t just being monitored by the Board since the fanbase is also taking a close look into how things are going. The relationship that each club has with their respective fans is absolutely crucial, not only for the soul of the club, but also for your pockets as ticket sales is one of the most lucrative ways that every club makes steady income. Failure to perform on the pitch will lead to a lack of trust from the fanbase which could be detrimental towards your career since it will have an impact on how your players perform when it comes to matchday.

Here is the area where you can identify how the fans feel about you. Notice that it is exaxctly the same as the Board confidence section

OBJECTIVES

So, at the start of each season, you will be brought into the Board of Director’s office in order to evaluate what is expected from you via setting some actionable goals that you must adhere to. Personally, this is one of my favourite things about the SM series as this allows me to not only pay attention to how my team is performing on the pitch, but also how to find different methods of achieving the other important areas within the club.

Each objective is given a short and long term goal that must be achieved in order for the confidence from the board to keep increasing. Failure to improve the Board’s confidence within you could lead to you being sacked even if your performaces on the field have been going well.

Here is my competition objective for the season. I have been instructed by the board to finish in the top 15 (which I believe is such a low standardized goal… smh). There is currently no long term objective which is understandable since I’ve only recently been recruited by the club (which is Brighton, for those of you who’s reading this series for the very first time)
Here is where things start to get tricky as we have been given a financial goal of making and maintaining a profit of 10% for the upcoming season. Now, since I am a Tactical Manager it will be a bit more challenging to achieve this compared to if I was a Suit Manager, but I am not signing any new players during my 1st season so we should be able to successfully achieve this goal. We also have a longer term goal of increasing the capacity of the Stadium from 30,750 to 46,125 within 2 seasons. What this means is that my performances have to be on point in order to keep generating that match day revenue.
Lastly, we also have some goals to achieve for the growth of the Club. The Board of Directors at Brighton have sat me down and told me that they expect to see an increase in rating of at least 10 players aged 22 or younger this season, as well as signing 10 players under 22 years old by the 2024-25 season. Both of these objectives are very relatable to the current real life strategy of Brighton & Hove Albion in that they tend to buy young talent, develop them and sell them to a bigger club for an enormous profit. Personally, I enjoy giving youth a chance but I’m all about winning trophies so this goal will be challenging. It also dosen’t help that I’m a Tactical Manager rather than a Training Manager, but what’s life without some difficult tests? 🤷‍♂️

JOB VACANCIES

A quick look at this area here. If you were ever wondering how the job market is looking, then here is the opportunity to see who is in need of a new manager. You normally get a job listing based on your current level and the type of clubs that would consider you the right fit. I’ve actually never left one club for another in the middle of a season or ever even used the options that I find within these lists, but everyone is different, and I’m sure there are other players who enjoy switching things up frequently.

Well, its fuller than a mofo in here *cricket noise*

We’ll end it here for today, soccermanagerite. Surprisingly, I was expecting this page to have more episodes but we’re actually unto our final episode tomorrow (this will also be the first time that I am uploading on the Weekend so that should be fun). Stay tuned, soccermanagerite, we got some more knowledge coming pon ya head top! 😎
