SEASON 5: Soccermanager 23; Episode 18: MANAGER (PT.4)

As you begin your managerial career, you will be placed into a category based on your level. There are 5 different Managerial catergories within SM: Amateur, Professional, Elite, World Class, and Legend

Amateur (From level 3-6): You have recently started your journey as a manager and have a lot of learning to do and mistakes to deal with. Based on your style of manager, you have certain tendencies that make you who you are but are still unsure about a lot of the things that make you a top manager beacuse of your lack of experience. If you are a Training Manager, you were either a very good player turned Manager or a member of a coaching staff who then decided to try out managing; If you’re a Suit Mnaager, you were once apart of the technical director team but since u have such a passion for football you navigated your way unto the coacing staff and now you’ve been granted an opportunity to manage at a club; if you’re a Tactical Manager, your playing career was either cut short or you were always a rotational player at best but you’ve been a student of the game for years to the point where you want to start creating your own tactical set ups which can now be possible since you’ve been granted this opportunity.

Professional ( Level 6-11): You’ve had some small wins under your belt while learning enough to seek to advance to the next level.

Elite (Level 11-16): By this point you’ve built up a solid reputation for yourself; your name is on the lips of many in terms of your abilties as a manager. You should’ve won at least 1 major trophy at this level of your career.

World Class (Level 16-21): You’re now a household name and consistently mentioned alongside some of the absolute best within the game. You have a style of play that is synonymous with each club that you manage and the media loves to dissect every aspect of it. You’ve won quite a few trophies in multiple countries and many managers fear coming up against your teams.

Legend (Level 21+): You’ve won everything that you possibly can and simply continue playing out of joy and love for the beautiful game. There’s atleast 1 club that is considering having a statue of you at their stadium and whenever your name is mentioned in comparison with another manager, there’s a considerate fanbase who all claim that you are the G.O.A.T. If you’re a Training Manager, you’ve converted at least 25 players from being okay to World Class (from 70 rated to 88+); If you’re a Suit Manager, you have made the club at least a profit of 100M USD while being considered the ‘Negotiation King’; if you’re a Tactical Manager, you’ve also converted a decent amount of players into World Class players as well as inventing several different formations and have got dozens of players playing at a high level in different roles and positions that were not their preferred one at the start.

Now that we’ve gone over the different managerial compartments, it’s time for us to take a look at each trait individually:

In each of the compartments, there are some traits that you can ugrade in order to make your managerial career a bit simpler. You can conisder these boosts helpful and will aid your abilities as a manager. As you probably know by now, I am not about the life of “fast forwarding” my career in no form whatsover, but unfortunately I already obtained some of the traits that are available because I had downloaded this game a few months ago but wasn’t really too eager to play it due to how dissapointed I was with SM22 which led to me mindlessly obtaining these traits prematurely. If I could take it back I defintely would, but like my gandparents loved to say: “You cant cry over spilled milk”

Now then, let’s go over each of the traits that are availble:

Here is a brilliant opportunity to obtain custom formations that you can get to use to display your creativity
Here is an opportunity to obtain a brand new slot within the Training area! (still not worth it so early in your career IMO)
This is another good trait which allows us to stand a better chance of purchasing quality players
A pretty self explanatory one. This trait helps in improving the chemistry of your team and allowing it to stay higer than how it would be naturally (again, still not worth it imo)
This is a trait that offers you the opportunity to improve some of our players within your starting X1’s rating. You can only do this to 3 players per match and although I would advise doing this, it shouldn’t be done when you’re still at the amateur level simply because it’s not realistic.
Getting an increase in your starting balance never hurted right?
Another trait that brings with it a good advantage of allowing you to identify your big game players, but, seriously tho, where is the fun in upgrading it without actually going through the effort of playing matches to see who are your realiable players within your squad??? 🤔
Some players have ingrained patience, while others have a built in ego…… By implementing this trait you make it easier to get players on your side by simply “buying” their patience….. Uhhhhh, NEXT!
Now, this is one of those traits that I would defintely use, but I personally believe that in order to have players wtihin your squad that can be considered future stars, they either have to be well developed based on your youth set up, or they simply have to be a “gem” which is something that dosen’t normally come aroud unless you’re managing clubs that have a reputation of producing “future stars” such as Brighton, Chelsea, Southampton, Barcelona, Valencia, Sassuolo, Juventus Borussia Dortmund, RB Salzburg, just to name a few…
Now, if you even attempt to obtain this trait when you’ve just started out, then you should be ashamed of yourself…..

Now then, those were the first traits that you will find within the “Amateur” section (man, I absoultely hate using that word…), but there are some others that you will be introduced to as you continue to level up. Let’s go over them together so that you can have some awareness of what to expect:

The board where you currently work at (ha, that’s right we’re simply highly paid employees) will have a bit more patience with you even if you stink up the place…. Again, I personally believe that no one should ever try to buy their way out of trouble, but most managers of thid game just don’t have the “Patience” to deal with natural progression, smh…

Now, you must be wondering if you’re ever going to get an opportunity to actually use any of these traits lol…. Well, here’s that opportunity that you’ve been waiting for cause as soon as you become a professional you can definitely seek to improve your stadium as it is one of the more lucrative ways that your club produces their income (and this should be a non-negiotable upgrade if you’re a Suit Manager)
Say it with me now: U. CANNOT. BUY. LOYALTY. And suppose you decided to improve this trait then the player goes and does an Aubameyang or an Ozil? * (Not coming after you Gunners fans, just had to make a point lol)
Similar to the Quick Dry Cement, this is another one that you can immedaitely upgarde when you get unto the professional level. This is because around this time you will be at a point in your career where you would have established a routine of the type of Manager that you are . So, the next step after this would be to start giving some youth players playing time. This trait allows these youth players to have a slight increase in their rating which might be needed since they tend not to perform well due to their lower rating (well, that wouldn’t of occurred back in SM21 but that’s a whole different story for a whole nother day).

That’s the end of today’s episode lads! For the first time since season 2, I’ve wrote a blog that has gone over the 5 minute mark. I hope this was more of a pleasant surprise than a dredded one.

We’re back tomorrow looking at the Board. See you then! ✌️
