“Practice…. We’re talking about Practice. Not the game, but practice……”
That was Allen Iverson who said this quote for any Basketball fans reading this.
So, we’ve made it to training. The lads are all inside getting themselves prepped and ready to come outside in order to get their first session completed under a new staff. Here is where your expertise and knowledge will be put under question. Here is your chance to wow them with a great first impression. Don’t worry soccermanagerite, I’ll help you obtain this.
HOW TO SUCCESFULLY SET UP YOUR FIRST TRAINING SESSION
In order to make the most out of each training session there are a few things that you have to take into consideration:
- The time of the season
- How long you’ve been managing the club
- Your style of management
Let’s take all three into my current scenario as Brighton Manager: This will be my first ever training session and it is taking place in July of 2022. So, what this means is that we are currently in Preseason so the number one priority will be to improve fitness.

Next thing is how long I’ve been the manager at the club. Well, this is day one so it is of extreme importance that the players get a grasp on my tactical methods which means that we have to perform some tactics training:

Lastly, it’s all about the style of manager I am. The football I like to play is all about domination (i.e. making it difficult for the opposition to play a good game). In my opinion, the best way to obtain this from the start of your managerial career with a club will be to play on the front foot in order to impose your tactical game unto the opposition. You could do the opposite and focus on building a solid defensive structure first, but goals win matches, and I personally believe that the defence will sort itself out if you have the right characters at the back.

Now, the lads are on the training pitch performing their warm up, they then get some fitness work done to improve their stamina and overall fitness level, the attackers get to enjoy themselves by performing various attacking drills, while the defenders seek to improve their communication by joining in every now and then. We complete the training session by looking at how I want them to play and what we can expect from our opposition within the first preseason friendly.

Now then, let’s see what my Assistant Manager has for me:

Here are some of the progressions from today’s training from each compartment:

Lastly, there is also the option of performing another training session which could improve your player’s development even quicker. This can be done by either purchasing the session using SM Credit or watching an Ad to get a free session. This is up to you, but I personally do not do this since it is not realistic and I love challenging myself without the use of external factors such as Ads or credit to increase any aspect of my managerial journey. I want to earn my status as an Elite manager, not buy it.
That’s it for today’s blog and this week’s look at the Training page on SM 23. Thank you sooo much for joining in and being apart of the experience. There will be no blog tomorrow, but keep a lookout as I’ll be giving out shoutouts to all of the soccermanagerites who have been sooo supportive on Facebook. You lads are the best 😎 👊
We’re onto a new area next week which, of course, will be still kept a secret. Looking forward to your company. ADIOS! ✌️
