SEASON 4: PLAYER ROLES ; EPISODE 5: PLAYER ATTRIBUTES PT.4

Welcome back, Soccermanagerite!!! Hope you had a lovely night’s rest and have been eager and anticipating today’s episode as we will be taking a look at the Physical Attributes of each player found within the game SM23 and how you can use the knowledge of these attributes to choose your players within Soccermanager Worlds more effectively.

The physical attributes within soccer are as important as the technical attributes, in my opinion. For those of you who play soccer in real life, I’m sure you can testify that the sport is more difficult if you’re not in the right physical shape to play it.

The same goes for in soccermanager, as the physicality of each player determines how you will set up your tactics within SM Worlds because some styles of play require various levels of physicality in order to work effectively. Just as a quick example, to play a fast tempo with direct passing and counter attack will require that you have a list of players who are high on the physical attributes scale. If playing a normal tempo with mixed passing and pressing in own half, it wouldn’t neccessarily require that every player within your starting eleven has high levels of physicality.

With that being said, let’s get into the attributes, shall we?

Aerial Ability: This is the height of which a player can get off the ground and into the air to accurately head a ball, whether for a goal scoring opportunity or a display of defensive prowess.

Pace: The quickness of a player along the ground at top speed.

Stamina: A player’s ability to recover from gut busting runs in order to perform a similar run in a short space of time.

Strength: A player’s ability to hold off opposition players through the use of shielding, blocking and upper body strength.

Work Rate: Often confused with Stamina, work rate is the appetite of a player to continuously perform any movement on the field other than walking. Most professional players have high levels of stamina, but not all of them like to continuously jog or run when they’re out of possession (think Aubameyang, Hazard, Maddison, or Pogba, for example). Players with high workrate are eager to track their opponents, make selfless off the ball runs, cover for attacking teammates, double up on the opposition while defending, and provide a passing option for majority of their time on the field.

And that’s a wrap for today’s episode, Soccermagerite. Coming up next week, we’ll be taking a look at the section that many simply do not understand, as they aren’t attributes that you can see physically or technically. They’re more of an attitude. So make sure not to miss it! 💚
