SEASON 3: FORMATION MATTERS Episode 20: The 4’s series (4-3-3A)

My very unique 4-3-3A set up within Soccermanager

AND HERE WE ARE!!!!! I told you that we were about to go over, what I consider, the greatest formations to ever be created, and its about time that the king came out to sit on his thrown. Welcome to today’s blog where we’ll be going over the greatest formation in the HISTORY of football: 4-3-3A!

So, you must be asking yourself, why is this formation the best compared to the rest? I’m glad you asked soccermanagerite… Let me explain: this formation consists of 4 Defenders, 3 Central Midfielders, and 3 Forwards. The reason why this is the greatest formation in history is due to its ability to allow all of its users the freedom to be completely versatile. With 3 Midfielders and 3 Forwards you’ll never run out of attacking threat, while still maintain enough to keep your back door (defence) shut! The 3 Midfielders can be of any elk and they operate across the entire field. If you’ve ever heard the saying “He’s covered every blade of grass“, just know that the midfield set up within the 4-3-3A is perfect doing just that. The 3 Forwards within this set up are a manager’s wet dream. Firstly, you can play ANY type of Forward from a Winger to a Second Striker. Secondly, they can play any way you want them too, wether it’s via direct passing or short passing; You can attack from anywhere on the pitch and still see great results. Lastly, your Forward’s Versatily allows you press anyway you’d like and you’ll score a shit ton of goals playing this formation as well.

The team that has really used this formation in the best way in today’s game has to be Liverpool. They absolutely illustrate the difference between the 4-3-3A and 4-3-3B. With their famous front 3 of Salah, Mane and Firmino, they tend to operate very close to each other with neither Salah or Mane never playing as out and out Wingers, and Firmino never playing as an out and out Forward. The 3 in midfield also demonstrates how versatile this formation is. Wether it’s Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Curtis Jones, Thiago, Milner or Harvey Elliot, they all play very effectively and never seem out of place.

This is how my team above looks when we’re in posession. Notice that I’ve used the arrows to indicate how they are implemented within a real life match. It’s kind of poetic that I found an image of the exact team( Courtesy of The Coaches Voice) that made me fall in love with the 4-3-3A. Truly amazing 🥲

PROS
• Formation allows for an extreme balance from defence all the way to attack
EVERY type of player can perform in this formation
• This formation allows Classic No.10’s (Like an Ozil or James Rodriguez) to operate in the midfield 3, as well as allowing Wingers (like a Saka or Koman) to operate in one of the forward areas. *The Midfield 3 will never leave your defenders isolated

CONS
• THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NONE!

What a way to end it right?! This formation is truly the best and I will go to my grave with that argument. As you can see, it says 4-3-3’A’ which means that this formation has a power sibling and best believe that its as amazing as this one….

If you’re not a fan of too many arrows, then here is a simpler 4-3-3A set up
